Abstract

Congestion is a situation or state of stalling or even stopping traffic caused by a large number of vehicles exceeding the capacity of the road. Traffic congestion is a big problem that is often faced in Indonesia, especially in big cities. This research was conducted aiming to analyze the factors that cause traffic jams that occur on Andalas street, Padang city. The method used is Pedoman Kapasitas Jalan Perkotaan (PKJP, 2014). Based on result of the field surveys on road capacity (C) 3340 smp/jam, total volume of traffic (Q) 1576 smp/jam and degree of saturation (DJ) 0,43 smp/jam, so that the level of service (LOS) type B road can be obtained in the sense that traffic flow is stable, the speed stars to be influenced by traffic conditions, but can still be cossen according to the driver’s wishes. The heighest level of congestion occurs on Wednesday 13 July 2020. Keywords: capacity, congestion, Level of Service (LOS)
