Abstract

The research questions in this study were: how can crossword puzzle improve the vocabulary mastery for the seventh grade at SMPN 05 Padang in academic year 2020/2021. Is crossword puzzle suitable for the first year students of the seventh grade at SMPN 05 Padang in academic year 2020/2021. This study was conducted to find out how crossword puzzle improved the vocabulary mastery and to find out whether crossword puzzle is suitable or not for the first year students of the seventh grade at SMPN 05 Padang. The participant of this research are 30 students from seventh grade at SMPN 5 Padang. The researcher uses classroom action research as the research design. The data collection techniques in this study used test, observation, and documentation.The data analysis in this research was using standar deviation and t-test for get significant different between pre-test and post-test. The finding shows that the t-test calculation from the result of pre-test and post-test in cycle I is 5.47 and in cycle II is 3.28. Both of them is greater than t-table with n =30 is 2, 04. It means that the use of crossword puzzle can improve the students vocabulary mastery
