Abstract

Adolescents in carrying out their developmental tasks cannot be separated from the influence of the social environment, such as family. Family or parents have an important role for adolescents in carrying out their developmental tasks. Ideally, parents play a role in providing attention and direction so that children can develop optimally. However, the fact is that not all teenagers are fortunate to be protected and cared for by their own parents. There is a condition where child care is entrusted to an orphanage for certain reasons such as losing both parents or one of the parents, both parents are still there but due to a weak economy, or other reasons. The Central Bureau of Statistics notes that the number of teenagers with an age gradation of 15-20 years in Indonesia is 22,233,393 people with 2.5% of teenagers living in orphanages[1]. In Padang City alone, there are1,035 foster children living in orphanages. Orphanages function as a means of fostering and alleviating neglected children, where these orphanages carry out family and community functions in the development and personality of adolescent children, providing services, information, consultation and skills development for children's social welfare. However, it is known that orphanage services are still not optimal, the many psychological problems that must be faced by orphanage adolescents make these adolescents vulnerable to mental health disorders so theytend to be less happy. Meanwhile, teenagers who are grateful will generously accept the reality in their life so that they can feel satisfaction and happiness. This PKM activity provides education and outreach to teenagers at the Aisyiyah Orphanage in Padang City about the importance of gratitude. This is the background for the PKM team to be able to contribute, provide a deeper understanding regarding the importance of being grateful to the young people who live in orphanages, so they can live and enjoy their lives in a more positive way so as to achieve happiness. The availability of adequate experts in this PKM activity, the enthusiasm of the participants, as well as the support of the Orphanage management for the implementation of the activities really supported and made this activity run well.
