Abstract

Living old age happily and prosperously is everyone's dream. This state can only be achieved by a person if the person feels physically, mentally and socially healthy, feels needed, feels loved, has self-respect and can participate in life. Every elderly must be able to face every change that he experiences in order to achieve prosperity and happiness in his twilight days, both physically, psychologically and socially. But what is happening today, not all the elderly can live their old days happily and prosperously. In Indonesia, there are many cases of neglected elderly people, elderly who live on the streets, elderly who become scavengers, elderly become beggars, and there are also elderly who are rejected in social institutions. This study aims to determine the relationship between family social support and successful aging in the elderly. The hypothesis proposed is that there is a relationship between family social support and successful aging in the elderly. Subjects in the study amounted to 134 elderly people who live in the district North Payakumbuh, Payakumbuh City. Data were collected using a family social support scale and a successful aging scale. The research data were analyzed using Pearson's Product Moment analysis technique, which shows that the correlation coefficient of family social support with successful aging is r = 0.631 with a significance level of 0.000 (p <0.05). These results indicate that the hypothesis in this study is accepted, namely that there is a relationship between family social support and successful aging in the elderly at district North Payakumbuh, Payakumbuh City. Keywords: Social Support, Family, Successful Aging, Elderly, Payakumbuh.
