Abstract
The research questions in this study were: what was the effect of teaching listening by using kids songs to the seventh-grade of SMPN 5 Padang in the academic year 2020/2021. And how was the improvement of students understanding of listening skill through kids song at the seventh-grade of SMPN 5 Padang in the academic year 2020/2021. This study was conducted to determine the effect of kid songs on improving listening skills and to find out how English kid songs can improve their listening comprehension. In obtaining these data, the authors conducted pre-experimental research at SMP 5 Padang involving 32 students in the class. The author uses classroom action research with one type of pre-experimental learning, namely one group pre-test and post-test design. The data collection techniques in this study used interviews, documentation, observation, and questionnaires. The data analysis in this research using IBM SPSS ver. 24 with the Wilcoxon Signed-Ranks Test formula. The results showed that there was a significant increase in students' listening comprehension using kid song media. This is found by comparing the pre-test and post-test scores. The the pre-test means score was 3.32, while the post-test mean score was 8.22. Based on the data obtained, the authors concluded that their auditory understanding increased after being taught using kid song media, they were also interested and motivated in the English learning process. And using kid songs as a medium to improve their listening skills really makes them active inclass. Keywords: improvement, listening skills, kid songs.
