Abstract

Listening skill is the most crucial part to communicate each other. Meanwhile, there must be difficulties that the teachers faced in teaching listening. The researcher exists for analyzing teachers’ difficulties in teaching listening skill at SMK N 1 Batipuh. This research was qualitative descriptive and was conducted at SMK N 1 Batipuh. The total subject of this research consisted of 2 English teachers. The research was designed in form of qualitative descriptive by Miles and Huberman. The data were collected by observation and interviewing. The data analysis indicated: (1) the factors cause the difficulties in teaching listening skill. The result showed that six difficulties that the teachers faced in teaching listening skill were these, the lack of the students interest and motivation to learn listening, lack of the students vocabulary and the students do not bring dictionary, controlling students to focus in learning listening in the large class, because every students has different character, the lack listening media and tools in the school in teaching listening skill was also their difficulty, the sounds from the school environment very disturbing, and the difference of listening materials in syllabus 2013 curriculum and National Examination materials.
