Abstract

Annisa Wahyu Ningsih, 2024. The Influence of Smartphone and Social Media Use on Students' Learning Motivation in TJKT at SMK N 8 Padang in the First Semester of the 2024/2025 Academic Year. This study aims to examine the influence of smartphone and social media use on the learning motivation of students in the Computer Network and Telecommunication Engineering Department at SMK Negeri 8 Padang. The variables in this study are Smartphones, Social Media, and Learning Motivation. The research method used a correlational method with a quantitative descriptive approach. Data collection was conducted through the distribution of questionnaires to 132 respondents. The analysis method used was Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. The questionnaire consisted of 35 statements. The questionnaire measurement used a Likert scale. The results of the quantitative data analysis showed that both smartphone and social media use individually had a significant influence on the learning motivation of students in the Computer Network and Telecommunication Engineering Department at SMK Negeri 8 Padang in the First Semester of the 2024/2025 Academic Year, with an F count value of 144.964 simultaneously (together) influencing Learning Motivation by 69.2%, while the rest was influenced by other variables. The results of the study revealed that an increase in the use of Social Media was positively correlated with an increase in learning motivation with a coefficient value of 1.788. Conversely, an increase in the use of smartphones showed a negative correlation with learning motivation with a coefficient value of -1.068. In conclusion, the use of social media is more effective in increasing students' learning motivation compared to the general use of smartphones. The appropriate use of social media can provide broader access to learning resources, increase social interaction, and ultimately encourage students' intrinsic motivation. On the other hand, uncontrolled use of smartphones can divert students' attention, disrupt learning concentration, and negatively impact academic achievement and learning outcomes.
